Privacy Policy

Effective date: 3 October 2026

This privacy policy applies to the SwissFish app (the "Application") for mobile devices and the web, developed by SwissFish (the "Service Provider") as a Freemium service. It explains what information the Application collects, why, where it is stored, who it is shared with and how you can delete it.

1. Using the Application without an account

You can use the map, fish zones, restricted areas, the list of lakes and rivers and the cantonal fishing rules without creating an account. In this case the Application does not ask for any personal information. Your language and display settings are stored only on your device.

2. Account information

Some features (comments, favourites and the catch journal) require an account. You can sign in with Google or with an email address and password. Accounts are managed by Google Firebase Authentication, which stores your email address, your name and profile picture (if provided by Google) and a unique user ID. If you write comments, you can also choose a public nickname.

3. Information you provide

4. Location

With your permission, the Application uses the precise location of your device to show your position on the map and to suggest the nearest lake or river when you add a catch. The location is processed only on your device: it is not sent to our servers, it is not stored in your account and it is not used in the background. You can refuse or revoke the location permission at any time in the settings of your device; the rest of the Application keeps working.

5. Purchases and subscriptions

Premium features are sold through Google Play (on Android) or the App Store (on iOS). Payments are processed by Google or Apple; the Service Provider never receives your payment card details. To check whether you have an active subscription, the Application uses RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase history for this Application.

6. Automatically collected information

The Application uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the Application is used, for example which screens are opened, the device model, operating system and app version, approximate country and an app instance ID. Firebase App Check is used to verify that requests to our servers come from the genuine Application. This information is not used to identify you and is not used for advertising. The Application does not show ads.

7. Where your data is stored

Account information, comments and photos are stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage); our server functions run in the europe-west1 region (Belgium). Favourites and the catch journal are stored in a private Cloudflare R2 storage bucket that only our server functions can access. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).

8. Third-party services

The Service Provider does not sell your personal data and does not share it with third parties for their own purposes. Data is processed only by the following service providers on our behalf, each with its own privacy policy:

The Service Provider may also disclose information if required by law, for example to comply with a court order, or when necessary to protect the safety of users or to investigate abuse.

9. Moderation of public content

Comments that receive several reports are hidden automatically and reviewed. Comments or photos that break the rules of the Application may be removed. You can also block other users so that you no longer see their comments.

10. Data retention and account deletion

Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your own comments and catches at any time in the Application.

You can delete your account in the Application: Info → Personal Account → Delete account. When you delete your account, the following data is permanently deleted from our servers within 24 hours: your account, your comments and photos, your favourites, your catch journal, your nickname, your blocked users list and your other personal settings. Likes and reports you made remain only as an anonymous ID that is no longer linked to any person. The local copy on your device is removed when you sign out or uninstall the Application.

If you cannot access the Application, you can request deletion of your account and data by writing to switzerland.fish@gmail.com from the email address of your account. We will delete the data within 30 days.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and the EU General Data Protection Regulation), you have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at switzerland.fish@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, for example the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

12. Children

The Application is not directed at children under the age of 13, and the Service Provider does not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided personal information, please contact us at switzerland.fish@gmail.com and we will delete it.

13. Security

The Service Provider uses technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, access rules that let each user read and change only their own private data, and server-side checks of all uploaded content. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however.

14. Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. The new version will be published in the Application and on this page, with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we will inform you in the Application.

15. Contact

If you have any questions about privacy in the Application, please contact the Service Provider by email at switzerland.fish@gmail.com.
